PLA films (polylactide or polylactic acid) are bio-based and biodegradable plastic films derived from plant starch – usually corn or sugar cane. They are among the most important types of bioplastics and are an environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastic packaging.

Important – Not heat resistant: Limited heat resistance (< 60 °C) – not suitable for hot filling.
